A little frustration.
I'm trying really hard not to write about my frustrations, since I really do need to update my blog about my trip to Toronto with Matt. But, this seems to be on the forefront of my mind right now, so I'm going to get it off my chest (ehrm, Uncle Pat!)
I've heard through the grapevine and have sensed, that there are some people who are disgrunted and unhappy with Matt because he hasn't written back, returned phone calls or gotten in touch with friends. It's come to the point, where certain people feel that they have been barred from such friendships and have spread rumors about the lack of response from our beloved soldier.
While I understand the gamut of emotions running through everyone's mind, I can say with certainty, being by Matt's side that homecoming sure sounds great, but it's not easy reintegrating back into normal life.
I will not entertain the idea of explaining what he's been up to, but please do mind your P's & Q's because if you don't know what Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is, I suggest you read up on it. And, if you don't know what its like to be living in a battle zone where the enemy's goal is to do nothing but KILL YOU every single day - then I suggest you sign up with the US Army.
I hope that all friends will try to understand that a human being risked his life for your freedom and safety. The least you can do is be sympathetic, understanding and respectful in kind.
Good job welcoming him home.

Hi. I'm Amanda. My boyfriend is going to join the navy later this year, and I really don't know a whole lot about what being a girlfriend to an enlisted soldier is like. I was wondering if we could talk sometime via aim or through email. My email's aherring@umw.edu; my aim is sourpatch686.
